New Beginnings

It has been 7 months since my last post.

In that 7 months my life has changes exponentially.

I created my most masterful work of art yet, a baby boy.

Three weeks ago Liam Kilpatrick graced the world with his presence.

Before his arrival, I haven’t been totally craft-less. In keeping with the new beginnings theme I created the wedding invitations for two dear friends of mine in Colorado.

Making these invitations has inspired me in a way to venture off the “up-cycled” craft wagon and start implementing my graphic design skills in my artwork. I haven’t ironed how I am going to do this exactly, but Bright-eyed Birdie will be going through a sort of face lift. I’ll keep you posted!

These invitations were custom made to match the wedding colors and theme.

If you are interested in getting custom invitations of any kind, contact me by email at brighteyedbirdiecreations@gmail.com .

Keep your eyes peeled for more great creations to come!

Let The Holidays Begin!

The air is slowly gaining that chill that we all love so much.

The trees are all a golden yellow or brown. Not because of Fall but because of the insane drought, but it gives the illusion that Fall is here.

This is my favorite time of year. I do wish it would finally make that turn away from the record breaking summer heat and give us some sweater weather. We will open our windows at night in hopes that the cool autumn weather will keep us cool but when the thermostat reads 85 we decide it’s not quite time to retire the old AC.

One other thing that peeks its head around this time of year are all the amazing craft/art festivals. I had

the great honor of being able to participate in a couple of really great shows.

The first show was set up by an amazing artist Shane Campos. It was an outdoor setting at a great coffee shop with live music, great artisans, and live painting by Shane himself.

The second show was held at Medici Cafe. Wonderful atmosphere, great art, great company. Hannah Stoney does an amazing job each time she puts on a show at the cafe. This time even with a new born!

I feel guilty for not being more involved with Bright-eyed Birdie this year. It was easy when I was unemployed and had all day to focus on new creative tasks. Now I feel like my time blocks for creativity have shrunk.
I’m sure this cooler weather and fall energy will rejuvenate my creative nature and I will be able to get ready for the bigger holidays to come.

Now That’s Fruity!

I am not naturally talented with my sewing machine but I am finding that the more time we spend together, the better we are getting along. A friend of mine asked if I could replicate a pincushion so he could give it as a gift to his wife. She had such a fond memory of those tomato shaped pincushions that almost every grandmother has.

This seemed like a daunting challenge at first seeing as my sewing skills are still in the learning phase but I decided to take on this project and put a little twist on it. I surfed the web for patterns to make tomato pincushions and they were all soooooo boring. All except this PATTERN by Heather Bailey.

I gathered all my fabric around me and began finding colors and textures that went together perfectly.

I gave my sewing machine a little pep talk and went to work.

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised with the turnout of these fruity little pin holders.

It didn’t really matter what I thought though, what mattered is how the recipient of this bizarre fruit thought.
My mind was put to rest when I got this email from my friend.
“Hey thanks so much for the pin cushions. They are amazing. Sarah really loves them. She was very surprised and cried when she opened em. Thank you so much.”
Success!!
I’ll have to buy my sewing machine a drink now for doing such a great job.

Six Years of Amazing

Today I am celebrating six years of marriage with the love of my life. The man of my dreams. My “soul partner” to quote Anne Marie, our officiant who married us on the white sandy beaches of Saint John. I found it only fitting to celebrate the occasion in a very special way.

I was contacted a couple of weeks ago about getting a canvas print made. What a great way to encompass our love for each other, by hanging a beautiful canvas photo of ourselves!

I found my favorite photo that was taken last year for our five year anniversary by the stellar photographer Sara Barnes. Seriously, check out her work, it will blow your mind!

I then went to Easy Canvas Prints where, true to their name, I easily picked my canvas size and uploaded my print. What was so great is that within just a couple of days it was ready for pick up right here in Austin. Even better, is that if I didn’t want to pick it up, they would have shipped it for FREE!

Check out my sweet print:

Now, hanging in our bedroom is this breath taking photo. The photo is beautiful, that canvas is beautiful. It is a perfectly fitting way to celebrate six years of marriage together.

If you are interested in getting a canvas print for super cheap you can like them on facebook and get 50% off your order AND free shipping!!

The Secret is Out!

It had been months since I had made any new cassette booklet journals and I was feeling like I was neglecting my poor little secret journals. So I gathered an armful of the best cassettes I could find and got my book making skills in full throttle. As a result these beauties were created. Inside these rather classic cassettes you will find a hand sewn cassette booklet. It can be your own little secret. These are perfect for gifts, writing your thoughts, music lyrics, dreams, jokes etc. My personal favorite is to use mine as a to do list that is easy to find.

If you are interested in purchasing a cassette booklet you can go to one of the two locations here in Austin I am a consignor at. There is the spectacular Green House that is filled with amazing handmade delights all from local Austinites. Also there is the brand spanking new Crafty Girl kiosk at Barton Creek Mall! I am truly honored to have my hand crafted treasures in these fabulous Austin establishments. If you live in or near Austin, go check them out! And buy a cassette booklet while you at it!

An amazing artisan at the Green House lovingly donate over a hundred cassettes for future secret cassette booklets so if you are looking for a particular musician, shoot me an e-mail and I just might have what your looking for!
